Music Marketing Blog #1



 Planning and brainstorming process

For our Music marketing project, the first thing we did as a group was listen to all the songs available in the folder and then we picked which one we thought it was best for the marketing campaign and the music video. Right after, we created a google drive folder where all our brainstorming ideas and presentation will go. After that it was time to do our research about the music industry and genre that we got which was rock/metal. We decided to divide the research, so two of us worked on one of the production companies and then the other two worked on the other company, this was a clever decision since we finished the work fast and we could get started on the rest of the project. In addition, we created a schedule for the group to get organized and decide when we need everything done.

After we finished the research, it was time to brainstorm ideas for the music video and marketing campaign such as what colors would we use for the brand? Or what kinds of social media are we doing and are right for the target audience? Additionally, we had to ask ourselves which type of music video would be appropriate for the song. All these questions were discussed withing our group in which we produced the answers for all of them. We decided to use dark colors to represent the brand of the band and use Instagram, Facebook, twitter, and SoundCloud as the social medias because it was right for the target audience for the genre of music we got assigned. After we made all these decisions, we separated the work for the marketing campaign to make the process faster and get it done quick we could have time to practice our presentation.

Now it was time to work on the music video and we started by brainstorming ideas of what we could do. This was the biggest challenge for us because the lyric of the song is extremely complex and heartfelt that we had a tough time deciding what we could do to represent this song with a music video. In addition, to how it was going to help us develop the brand of the band. We were between doing a promo video or an artistic video and we decided it was best to mix storytelling and promo and animations that go with it. We made this decision to do something different and go out the typical music videos that go with the genre. We really wanted to step out of the stereotypes that come with the genre. In the end, we planned how we're going to edit the video and when and where we're going to film it. It has been a long and difficult process coming up with a brand new brand for a band but with the efficient planning and useful brainstorming the project will come together.
